Thursday 28th September – Windsurf ** The Manor at Felixstowe – sunny
periods and mild.
Foil – 18.27 knot max, 13.18 knot ave, 4.03 knot hour, 16.73 knot mile,
18.14 km., 3.68 knot alpha.
Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Bolt
5.5.
I was hoping to get out today which I did but once again Storm Agnes let us
down here in Felixstowe:( With light winds this morning, hazy too and the
sun was apprentely blue tinged but I didn’t see that, at least it gave me
time to do my exercises in the garden while Mag worked very hard as usual
sorting out her plants getting ready for the winter! Then with a little
more wind from the WSW I headed down to The Manor where there is more beach
at high water. I managed to park at the end of Squiz Lane as three
Environment Agency vans had parked for their lunch break. There looked
enough wind to foil but it was difficult to judge its strength as it was
slightly off but I set up my foil board and the wind seemed strong enough
for my 5.5, sadly the wind had droped by the time I was ready to set sail.I
had a very friendly cat which seemed to like my trailer, then my board bag
on the beach, then went to sleep in the back of my van! A sailer who used
to work in the old windsurfing shop here as a lad many years ago came down
to sail, I actually sold him his Starboard Carve 145 which he is still
using, he rigged 6.7 to fin so I thought I would have a run out with the
small sail to check the conditions? Things were looking bad as I wobbled
off the beach around 1.30 but 500m out I pumped up and had a fantastic mile
run out in super smooth sea, gybing I had anther good run in before the
wind eased. Sadly by this time I ended up down by the ferris wheel and
spent ages floundering back in 10 knots of wind against the tide, I did get
one more really good long run before the wind dropped again, I definitely
should have rigged at least 6.5 or maybe even 7.5! I got back eventually
and called it a day, three great runs and should have been much better if
only the rig had played ball and I had rigged a bigger sail, cant win them
all:)
